Story Preview

Hello everyone. So as a first official post I would like for you to have a preview of a story. I can not reveal who it belongs to but it is important you read.

“Cedric!” I called to my fifteen-year-old down. I heard the pounding of his heavy feet running down the stairs. He enters the room with his little sister Sky in his arms. If you looked at both of them, you would swear they were not related at all. Cedric was tall, already at 5’9” at his age, with dark red-brownish hair and pale white skin. He smiled at his little sister, and they had another of those inner thought conversations. Schuyler smiled and showed her perfect white baby teeth that seem to glow against her olive-tone skin.

“Hey, Ma, mind if I take Sky to the park with Isadora?” he asked. Isadora was his girlfriend that he been with since he was in seventh grade. She was practically family. She and Cedric would take Sky and Jack out on their dates all the time.

“Sure, since I’m taking Jack to his party at Angela’s.” I agreed as I set down a plate of scrambled eggs in front of him. I prayed Sky from his arms, and sat her on my lap.

“Time for the little princess to eat,” I said as I held a purple plastic spoon up high. She smiled and took a mouthful of eggs into her mouth.

“Should I get Jack?” asked Cedric.

“No, he already ate; he wanted to go pick out his out his outfit for today.” I said as I plated another spoonful of eggs in Sky’s mouth. Cedric finish eating and head toward the bathroom to take a shower. It was a lazy summer morning and he was enjoying not having to go to school. I finished feeding Sky and carried her to her room. I began picking out her outfit for her day. I Picked her outfit, purple shorts and a plain white tee, and took her in my arms toward the bathroom. I passed Jack’s room and he was fussing over what to wear to his best friend’s house.

“Just wear jeans with your awesome purple shirt.” Yes, this family was obsessed by the color purple. He smiled and hurried over to hug me. I ruffled his brown hair and hugged his with my free arm. He then ran back to his wardrobe.

I walked to the second bathroom and started the hot water running. Soon the tub was filled with steamy water and I had Sky inside. She splashed in the water and covered me in soap. I laughed and fished lathering her scalp with Strawberry Smoothie Shampoo from L’Oreal ™. She giggled and closed her eyes as I rinsed the soap of her jet-black curls. I scrubbed her body with her grey and (shocker!) purple sponge. Once we finished I wrapped her in a ducky towel and carried her of to her room. She was excited to go to the park. She’s been happy to go out lately. Once she was in her clothes and her extremely adorable purple converse, I combed her hair and let her off. I went to check on Jack, he was already showered and in his jean and tee. He was tying his purple converse when Cedric came in.

“Whoa! What with the purple?” he asked I looked to see he too was wearing a purple shirt and jeans.

“I guess today my favorite color is purple.” I laughed. Cedric smiled and ran a hand through his hair. He checked the time and said he was going to Sky so they could leave. I nodded and followed him. Sky was sitting in front of the T.V set watching Courage the Cowardly Dog Show.

“Ready to go see Sky?” he asked her. She nodded and lifted her hands up to show that she wanted to be carried. Cedric complied and gave her a piggy back ride to the front of the door. I kissed them both on the cheek and slipped Sky two dollars into her shorts. She always liked having money so she could pay for herself.

“Be back around five, mom!” shouted Cedric as he ran out. I waved them off and closed the door. I walked over to the bathroom myself to get ready. My shower was fast and cold. I didn’t have the luxury these days to have a peaceful and hot shower. Once I was out, I changed into my denim shorts and white tank top. I wanted to wear purple so I had to dig though all of my stuff to find my purple converse low tops. I quickly brushed my hair and slipped on some purple rubber bracelets. I graved my shades and keys and went to look for Jack.

Jack was getting something from of the top of the cabinet. He jumped down and began to eat the Pop-tart.

“Hey mister didn’t I already feed you?” I asked. He nodded and took another bit.

“Let’s go,” I sighed and we headed out the door.

Arriving at the party I could tell it was going to be one of those ‘brag and eat’ kinds of parties. Angela had some pretty awful friends if you ask me. All they like to do is sit and brag about their kids. Usually it was all lies, or made up stories of how their kid was in the honor roll or how they won the science fair. So what? I asked them, my kid skip two grades and my little girl can count and say her alphabet forward and backwards, and you don’t see me shoving that fact down your through do you?

“Mom let’s go!” called Jack from behind me. I walked around and opened the truck’s door. Jack jumped down with the gift bag and balloons tied to it. (We had stopped at a local florist). He smiled at me and ran to the fence. I followed him as I spotted Angela opening the fence door. I walked up behind him and smiled at Angela.

“Izzy, how nice that you came!” she greeted me, as she embraced me in a tight hug.

“Well, there punch and lemonade in the back and finger sandwiches for the kids.” She pointed toward the food table. I smile and muttered a thanks. Jack stayed at my side. He looked up at me and bit his lip. I trait he inherited from me.

“Are you scared?” I asked as I bet down to his size.

“Ma, I only know there people here.” he whined.

“But be such a wimp, you’re a Black and a Black isn’t scared.” I said as I ruffled his hair. “If you only know three kids then go and make new friends.” He bit his lip again and looked down at his shoes. I smiled at him and took his hand. I walked over to the gift area and dropped of the present before heading over to congratulate the birthday boy.

“Hi, Dylan!” I called when I saw Angela‘s son. He had his father’s, Ben, brown mop hair and Angela adorable dimpled smile. He turned around when he saw me and came running up to me. I gave him his birthday hug and kiss on the check before he dragged Jack out to play. I moved to one of the empty garden chairs and sat down. The warm sun danced on my skin as I relaxed. How I love that Chicago get such beautiful summers.

“Hello,”

“I opened my eyes to find a little girl with blond hair and striking green eyes standing next to me. She was holding four red tulips and one pink/white rose. She was handing me a red tulip and the rose.

“I think these are for you.” She said in high voice. I took the flowers from her hand and smiled at her.

“Honey, did you take these from Angela’s garden?” I asked. Angela pride herself in her beautiful flower garden and she would not be happy that I was holding two of her babies in my hand.

“No, these are from the garden back home, Mommy let me.” she smiled. She pointed to a couple back at the far end of yard. It was a small girl with spiky black hair and a young blonde man. I took the girls hand and walked over to the couple. They looked up when they saw me approaching. The girl in my hands ran to the women and whispered into her ear.

“Hello,” she smiled up at me. She got up and shook my hand. She was a tiny thing. I saw short at 5’4 but she was almost only five feet tall. Her—I what I assume to be—husband, has at least 6’ 1 tall.

“Hello,”

“I’m Alice and this is my husband, Jasper,” she gestured to the blonde man. “And this little trouble maker is our daughter, Charlotte,”

“I’m Izzy, and my son is out there…somewhere.” I said as I looked over to the other kids. I didn’t see him anywhere. When all hope of finding his was lost, I just turn and said he’s the one in purple.

“Oh, okay, is that the family color?” she said pointing to my converse and bracelets. I laughed and shook my head, “Well, only for today.” I admitted.

The three of us laughed and I offered back the flowers. She shook her head no and said that they were already cut it’s not as if she could put them back on the stems.

So what do you think who is Cedric father? Who’s Sky’s and Jack’s? I think you can guess.
